A little preparation helps you get the most out of your aurora experience at Hidden Valley Bed & Breakfast, especially if it’s your first Northern Lights trip. Here’s what to know before you head out for an evening under the sky.

Dress for the Weather
Even if you’re only stepping outside for a few minutes, the Yukon night can get cold quickly. Pack warm layers, wool socks, mitts, and a good winter coat. For guests visiting during peak season, thermal underlayers make a big difference.

Bring a Warm Drink
A thermos of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate is one of the small comforts that makes aurora viewing especially enjoyable. It keeps you warm while you wait and helps you stay out longer when the lights begin to appear.

Stay Flexible and Patient
The aurora can appear suddenly or slowly build over time. It’s worth stepping outside occasionally throughout the night, especially between 9 PM and 2 AM. Give yourself the freedom to enjoy the night at your own pace.

Photography Tips
You don’t need a professional camera to capture the lights. Modern smartphones can take surprisingly good aurora photos when set to “Night Mode,” especially if you lean against something steady. If you’re using a camera:
 • Bring a tripod
 • Use a long exposure
 • Keep your spare batteries/phone warm when not using.

You don’t need perfect photos. Sometimes the most meaningful memories are the ones you simply watch.
